GU13 Finalists at Forest Memorial Day Tourney
Playing 5 games in 3 days, Arsenal Girls U-13 with coach Rich Cortez finished as Finalist in the Nott's Forest Memorial Day tournament in San Diego. These girls played amazing soccer competing against gold and elite teams. On Saturday In group play Arsenal tied their first game 1-1 against a solid CV Manchester team. In their 2nd game they beat the host team Knott's Forest 1-0 in a defensive struggle. On Sunday in their third game saw Arsenal come away with a 2-1 victory over a tough MVSC United. Finishing in first place in their group with 20 points it was off to bracket play on Monday. In the semi-final game the girls scored a thrilling come from behind 2-1 victory against CSC Red who finished in the final 8 elite in State Cup last year. The final game went into overtime with Arsenal falling 1-0 against the premier Carlsbad Lighting 95-96 Red, also a final 8 Elite finisher in last years State Cup. Great job girls and you are well on your way to a great season, if playing so well against these top teams is any indicator.

John Blanche Memorial
Soccer Complex
The soccer complex is named for John Frank Blanche of Fallbrook, a retired U.S. Marine who was active in youth soccer in his community and died in a car crash in April 2001, Smith said. "John was very helpful when we started our club several years ago," Smith said. "When he died, I made a promise to his wife that I would find a way to honor him for his work." more
