BU10 - 2008 Forest Memorial Day Cup Champions

Once again, Arsenal FC (AFC) would like to congratulate the 2008 BU10 AFC-South team for winning the BU9 bracket in the 2008 Forest Memorial Day Cup which was held on May 24-26 in San Diego, California. The team has now won their second championship in as many tournaments this young 2008-2009 season. Led by Coach Cliff Moss, the team has developed a sense of “never giving up” attitude until the sound of the last whistle. That was demonstrated to perfection this past weekend in the championship game versus a very strong and physical team in Carlsbad Lighting when AFC tied the score 1-1 with ONLY 5 seconds remaining after trailing for almost the entire game. That goal came when newly acquired midfielder, Raymundo Zuniga, gave a beautiful pass to Noah Mabra who slams the ball past a diving goal keeper into the back of the net. AFC finally took the lead two minutes into the first over-time period by Adonis Cornejo who blasted a shot from an assist by Brian Gonzalez. AFC took command of the game by adding an insurance goal two minutes later by Raymundo Zuniga. The team is anchored by GK Andrew Kinston, with 2 shutouts. Our defense, who allowed the fewest goals (4) in the tournament, include Adonis Cornejo (Captain), Daniel Bernal, Jacob Pickell and Joshua Medrano. The midfield, who is the nucleus of the team, include Brian Gonzalez (Captain), Simon Bortcosh, Austin Tanner and Raymundo Zuniga. The forwards include Noah Mabra and Ezekiel Alvarez.
